Book Recommendations

When I am not working or spending time with Gigi, I am usually reading, exercising or watching one of the Real Housewives franchises. About once every three months I treat myself to an enormous Barnes and Noble splurge. For those in high pressure jobs and/or in law school, I recommend picking up a book, especially before bed. I wish I read more for pleasure in law school (although after the endless reading assignments, you could not have even paid me to pick up another book) because it would have helped with stress management. Reading calms my mind more effectively than scrolling through social media. I believe there is also science about the blue light from our phones negatively affecting our REM cycle but I will leave that for you to confirm. Here are some books I read recently that I found particularly captivating:

1. Verity by Colleen Hoover: I read this book while on vacation in Costa Rica. I can still feel the lounge chair sores developing because I could not come up for air. I devoured this book in a day. Lowen, a budding author, is hired to continue Verity Crawford’s famous series because Verity is incapacitated from an injury. Lowen temporarily moves in with Verity’s family to write and gain inspiration…madness unfolds. If you fancy some romance and have a bit of a twisted side, run, don’t walk, to read this book. 2. The Family by Naomi Krupitsky: As you will see, I tend to seek out stories with female protagonists. I also consider the Sopranos one of my favorite guilty pleasures. In comes The Family by Naomi Krupitsky. The Family takes its readers through the close but complicated relationship of Antonia and Sofia from childhood to adulthood. Their relationship is constantly tested, especially considering their familial and social circle. Sofia and Antonia’s friendship masterfully illustrates that family is not reserved to just blood relationships. I may have shed a tear while reading this book. 3. Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison: I enjoy a good thriller. In Lie to Me, a famous author disappears, leaving her husband and friends to piece together the reason for Sutton's absence. The story is told from a few different perspectives; you will not be sure who to believe; Ethan, the at-best shady husband or Sutton, the duplicitous wife? I stayed up much later than I should have to finish this book. No one ever really knows what goes on behind closed doors, especially in the most revered of marriages. Happy Reading!
